In 2008 Alexander Hleb ruined his life by leaving Arsenal for a doomed move to Barcelona. Now with Birmingham, the Belarus international is filled with regret and longing for the good old days he spent with Wenger and Cesc. He probably spends most nights crying as he transfers himself back to Arsenal in FIFA 11, rubbing his fingers against his 70-inch TV screen hoping that he can make it real.
With that in mind, his comments during a recent ESPN interview shouldn't be all that surprising. After asserting with dead-eyes and a hollow soul that "It's OK -- I come here, I fight for this club [Birmingham...or whatever] now," Hleb eagerly stated (even before the interviewer could ask the question) that "in a dream, dream world" he would do anything to rejoin Arsenal. Probably even kill a man. He didn't say that with his words, mind you, but his eyes did. His eyes did.
And then he did the saddest thing and told the ESPN crew that they "better put here an Arsenal shirt" on the wall behind him instead of that Birmingham (or whatever) shirt. He tried to laugh it off like he was just making a joke, but he wasn't. Immediately after the video stops, Hleb began sobbing and tried to put an Arsenal shirt he made himself out of plastic garbage bag and stickers from the club shop on the wall while everyone silently packed up and left.
