? It was the early round match that caught everyone's eye when the French Open draw was released last Friday. Now it's finally arrived. Fabio Fognini vs. Guillermo Garcia-Lopez. 1 p.m. ET. Court 7. Get your popcorn ready.
? Oh relax, obviously I'm talking about Novak Djokovic playing Juan Martin del Potro (last match, Court Philippe Chatrier). How often do you get a player on a 41-match winning streak facing off in the third round of a Grand Slam against a former major champion on his way back from injury? (That was a rhetorical question.) Matchups this big don't happen this early in Slams, a fact which isn't lost on Djokovic. He gets del Potro in the third round while Rafael Nadal gets the 227th-ranked player in the world.
There's a sizable camp that thinks del Potro will take this one, but I'm not among them. He's nursing injuries, isn't at his best on clay and has never beaten Djokovic the three times they've played. In a best-of-three, it'd be more of a toss-up. In a best-of-five, del Potro may make Djokovic look fallible for the first time in weeks, but expect the Serb to win. Again.
? Nole and Delpo may get some time to relax before they're scheduled to hit the court. The match that precedes theirs, Stanislas Wawrinka vs. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has all the makings of one of those five-set French Open marathons, which have actually been in short supply this year. It's a big day for the home country, as seeds Richard Gasquet, Marion Bartoli and Gael Monfils are also in action on the show courts.
? American Bethanie Mattek-Sands faces No. 10 seed Jelena Jankovic on Court 2 at approximately 7 a.m. ET, the same time Roger Federer will be on Court Suzanne Lenglen playing No. 29 seed Janko Tipsarevic.
